Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian
"Speaking of torture, congratulations on Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian," said Triumph the Insult Comic Dog while roasting Ben Stiller during last night's MTV Movie Awards.
Words couldn't have been better said about this film, a film that really didn't need a sequel, based on how bad the first film was.
In this sequel, Ben Stiller returns as Larry Daly, a successful entrepreneur years removed from his job as night watchman at the Museum of Natural History. When Daly learns that the Museum is advancing into a more interactive museum, and the museum pieces are moving into federal storage at the Smithsonian museum.
Daly reunites with his museum friends including Theodore Roosevelt (Robin Williams), who tells Daly that when the museum pieces leave the museum, the spell of the tablet of Achmen-rah would remain at the museum, thus turning them into dust.
During the move, the tablet of Achmen-rah is stolen by Achmenrah's brother Kahmunrah (Hank Azaria), Daly goes on a mission to rescue his friends Jedediah (Owen Wilson), Octavious (Steve Coogan) and the rest of the museum gang.
What kills me is that Stiller, is such a great comedic actor and has produced so many classic films over the years like Meet The Parents, Zoolander and one of last year's hits Tropic Thunder, but yet as I could tell in the film, he was just working for a paycheck, as his comedic moments in the film were very limited, the two monkeys that were slapping Stiller seemed more funny than Stiller.
A notable scene in the film was when Kahmunrah bad mouthed of all things Darth Vader and Oscar The Grouch, trust me it's a great scene.
If anything I could say about the film, was the great cast additions of Azaria and Academy Award nominee Amy Adams as Amelia Earhart, they both brought some strong strong comedic timing to their roles, but overall, this movie was even more corny and cartooney as the first, and I pray there isn't a third movie in the works.
Next time on Reel Revue, will be my review for "UP" starring Ed Asner, Delroy Lindo and John Ratzenberger.
You've read my review now here's what some fellow critics thought of Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian: 1. Christina and Ryan Osterhoff, 2. Linda Franklin and Hank Franklin.
