The Soloist
What's up gang, the Reel Revue is back, and for my first review, "The Soloist" starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Foxx.
In "The Soloist", Downey plays Steve Lopez, a journalist who is in dier need for a feature story when he encounters a homeless Juliard musician Nathaniel Ayers played by Foxx who is playing a violin with only two strings.
As Ayers begins to trust Lopez, a friendship blossoms as Lopez attempts to make Ayer's dreams come true as a concert violinist.
The Soloist, is based off the book written by Lopez of his accounts with Ayers.
I personally enjoyed this film, the only issue I had was at the story seem to go in different directions, at one point it was an emotional drama, then out of the blue it is an art film, then back to emotional drama.
Downey and Foxx are at the top of their game with these performances. Downey's resurgance continues following his recent performances in Ironman and Tropic Thunder and Foxx is solid in his role as the virtuoso Ayres.
Foxx, is not a stranger to films depicting a musical genius, after his stellar portrayal of Ray Charles in "Ray."
For my first movie back, I wouldn't rate The Soloist as one of the best movies of the year so far, but Downey and Foxx's performances made the film well worth seeing.
