Seven Pounds
Coming off monumental roles in "The Pursuit of Happiness" and "I Am Legend" and donning the superhero role of "Hancock", Will Smith is back in Seven Pounds.
In the movie, Smith plays Tim Thomas, an aerospace engineer, who tragically gets into an automobile accident killing seven people including his wife.
Smith, traumatized by the ordeal, decides to give "pounds of flesh" to seven worthy individuals, to make up for the seven lives he destroyed while in the end taking his own life to atone for his sins.
Smith's plan starts to fall apart, when he begins to fall in love with one of the people he's trying to help, Emily played by Rosario Dawson.
This movie turned out to be a disappointment, first off, I feel Smith had a moderate performance at best, the movie featured several slow points, where it just left you wondering exactly where the story is going, and the ending wasn't as much of a surprise as one would expect.
I felt that of all things to come out of this movie was the performance of Dawson, who has been in several films, but this role to me is her breakout role as a leading lady, as opposed to several supporting roles like in the 2008 film "Eagle Eye."
Seven Pounds does feature great supporting performances from Woody Harrelson, who plays another of the chosen helped by Smith, and Barry Pepper, who play's Smith friend and is put to the task of aiding Smith succeed his plan.
I just wish Seven Pounds, would have focused more on the love story, between Smith and Dawson, and not flip-flop in between love story and Smith's eternal plan.
