Best Movies of 2008 (6-10)
6. Burn After Reading
The Coen brothers definitely deliver whether a dark, sinister film like No Country for Old Men, or with this goofy dark comedy. Brad Pitt steals the show, as the dimwitted personal trainer. Personally, this movie should have gotten more Golden Globe nominations, and deserves nominations come Oscar time.
7. Quantum of Solace
I just want to go on record and say Daniel Craig's portrayal of James Bond in both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace has more than surpassed the Bonds of the past like Brosnon, Dalton and Roger Moore. I think he does have a way to go to reach Sean Connery status though.
Anyway, this movie featured some outstanding action sequences, and the fact that you kick off a movie with a wild car chase, AWESOME!
8. Wall-E
Sure alot of critics, rate this higher, but for me, the movie focused on the wow factor behind the animation and not much on telling a sufficient story, also I am more used to seeing an animated film with actual voice over work and not robotic noises.
But not to downgrade the movie, it was cute, it was this year's Ratatouille, but better.
9. The Incredible Hulk
What made this movie, better than the previous film where Eric Bana ("Troy") played the role of the Hulk, EVERYTHING.
This movie should have been out all along, Edward Norton, who I feel is one of the best actor's going today, turned in a another solid performance, the final battle sequence between Hulk and Abomination was fantastic and I love the ribs they put on the comic book, including Norton's scoffing when Elizabeth Ross played by Liv Tyler gives him purple stretchy pants, not to mention the cameo of Lou Ferrigno.
10. Get Smart
This was a personal favorite for me this year, because I grew up watching the 70's TV show.
I went to this movie with high expectations and it lived up to everyone, including Steve Carell playing the role of Maxwell Smart, a role that was made great by the late Don Adams.
Not to mention, Anne Hathaway who blew me away as the sexy agent 99, played on the 70's television show by Barbara Feldon.
I don't think this movie got a lot of critical credit, because recent movies based on TV shows tend to flop, but this movie was great from start to finish.
