Eagle Eye
The Fall kicks off with Eagle Eye, a technological thriller that left me speechless and not in a good way.
In Eagle Eye, Shia Labeouf ("Transformers"), plays Jerry Shaw, a "copy associate", who learns his twin brother was killed while serving in the military. Once returning from his brother's funeral, he comes home to find an entire military cache of weapons, flight manuals, passports, etc. in his apartment.
The story begins to take shape when Labeouf receives a mysterious phone call from a technological terrorist (an actual computer that could control traffic lights, trains, cellular phones, etc.), who chooses Shaw to complete a mission to aid in the assassination of several U.S. officials during the State of the Union address.
Shaw is not alone, as the terrorist also involves Rachel Holloman, played by Michelle Monaghan (Made of Honor), a single mother, who learns that the terrorist has control of the train to D.C. that her son is on and if Monaghan
's character doesn't complete her task, her son will die.
Throughout the rest of the film, Labeouf and Monaghan are framed as terrorists and are coerced to carry out the assassination plot.
Sorry to be wordy, in this review, but I left the movie not feeling pleased over what I saw.
The action sequences were great, and some solid performances were turned in by some of the main players, like Labeouf, Monaghan, Billy Bob Thornton and Rosario Dawson (who play federal agents chasing down Labeouf and Monaghan's characters).
But I found this movie to be treading on believability, sure were at an age where this type of technology could and might actually exist. But I prefer villians to be actors, and provide strong, yet thrilling performances like Denzel Washington in "American Gangster" or Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight." One thing's for sure, this is the kind of movie, that MTV would nominate the computer for Best Villain, corny. But for me, as a thriller, I wasn't impressed, the premise was almost the same as "I' Robot", I didn't like that movie, and I didn't really like Eagle Eye either.
