Golden Globe Film Award Predictions
Best Motion Picture, Drama
'Avatar'
'The Hurt Locker'
'Inglourious Basterds'
'Precious'
'Up in the Air'
PREDICTION: The only film in this category I saw this year so far was Inglourious Basterds, so on viewing alone I would choose this film, but usually with awards you go with hype and the two movies in this category that have garnered the most hype would be Up In The Air and Hurt Locker, my guess Hurt Locker would win in this category.
Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical
'500 Days of Summer'
'The Hangover'
'It's Complicated'
'Julie & Julia'
'Nine'
PREDICTION: This should be a no-brainer, 50 Days of Summer was critically acclaimed but The Hangover by far and away was the funniest movie this year and should rightfully take this award.
Best Director in a Motion Picture
Kathryn Bigelow
'The Hurt Locker'
James Cameron
'Avatar'
Clint Eastwood
'Invictus'
Jason Reitman
'Up in the Air'
Quentin Tarantino
'Inglourious Basterds'
PREDICTION: I'm doing everything possible to try and see Invictus or Up In The Air before the year is out, so for now I'll choose Tarantino in this category.
Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama
Jeff Bridges
'Crazy Heart'
George Clooney
'Up in the Air'
Colin Firth
'A Single Man'
Morgan Freeman
'Invictus'
Tobey Maguire
'Brothers'
PREDICTION: On hype alone, Morgan Freeman has reportedly turned in the best role of his career playing Nelson Mandela, so I predict Freeman should take this honor.
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama
Emily Blunt
'The Young Victoria'
Sandra Bullock
'The Blind Side'
Helen Mirren
'The Last Station'
Carey Mulligan
'An Education'
Gabourey Sidibe
'Precious'
PREDICTION: I'm only aware of two nominees in this category, Sidibe has recieved high critic buzz for her breakthrough role but I think Sandra Bullock will win this award.
Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture
Matt Damon
'Invictus'
Woody Harrelson
'The Messenger'
Christopher Plummer
'The Last Station'
Stanley Tucci
'The Lovely Bones'
Christoph Waltz
'Inglourious Basterds'
PREDICTION: In another wide open category for me to choose, in my view the award really narrows down to Damon and Harrelson, and in the end Damon should win the award.
Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture
Penelope Cruz
'Nine'
Vera Farmiga
'Up in the Air'
Anna Kendrick
'Up in the Air'
Mo'Nique
'Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire'
Julianne Moore
'A Single Man'
PREDICTION: (I just want to go on record and say I like predicting the MTV Movie Awards because those nominees are films I have seen and can easily predict, now back to the blog)
Flipping a coin, in this category, I'll go with Anna Kendrick for "Up In The Air"
Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Comedy
Matt Damon
'The Informant!'
Daniel Day-Lewis
'Nine'
Robert Downey, Jr.
'Sherlock Holmes'
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
'(500) Days of Summer
Michael Stuhlbarg
'A Serious Man'
PREDICTION: I think Damon stole the show as Marc Whitacre in the Informant, I will see Downey in Sherlock Holmes on Christmas Day, so my prediction may change but for now I'll go with Damon.
Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy
Sandra Bullock
'The Proposal'
Marion Cotillard
'Nine'
Julia Roberts
'Duplicity'
Meryl Streep
'It's Complicated'
Meryl Streep
'Julie and Julia'
PREDICTION: As much as I would like to choose Bullock in this category, I thought Streep's performance in "Julie and Julia" was very strong and heartfelt in her portrayal of Julia Child, so I think Streep should win and most likely will win this award being nominated twice.
Best Screenplay - Motion Picture
'The Hurt Locker'
Mark Boal
'District 9'
Neill Blomkamp, Terri Tatchell
'Inglourious Basterds'
Quentin Tarantino
'It's Complicated'
Nancy Meyers
'Up in the Air'
Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner
PREDICTION: In quite the shame, that District 9 wasn't nominated for more Oscars, I'll give them the nod in this category.
Best Animated Feature Film
'Coraline'
'Fantastic Mr. Fox'
'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'
'The Princess and the Frog'
'Up'
PREDICTION: The story of an elderly baloon vendor who turns his house into a zeppelin to fulfill his wife's dream was the best animated story this year, so "UP" should not only win the Golden Globe in this category but the Academy Award as well.
