The buzz of Twilight
Well the time has come for all you "Twi-Hards" out there, with New Moon recently opening in theaters.
Films have created quite the enthusiastic buzz, around both the public and the media, but I don't remember a series of films getting such as buzz as Twilight.
Now granted, I have not read any of the books, and I went into the first one with a skeptical view point, and despite what the bloggers said on my best and worst page last year, Twilight wasn't all that bad a movie.
It was just that I for one, am so to use to seeing vampires in films like Blade or Underworld, sure the books change the rules on vampires, including such things as having no fangs and their skin shines like diamonds.
But for me not reading the books, it lacked believability on my part, I clearly referred to the first film as a "90210" with vampires.
Sure the actors had strong performances, Robert Pattinson, who broke through as Edward Cullen and young up and coming actress Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan.
I gave praise for the performances, it just didn't rank really high as far as my best films of the year. I'm sure the DVD topped all sales last year, when it was released, I remember I walked by the Hot Topic in Boise and saw adverts for a DVD release party and from what I hear it was packed with fans.
The films have also spawned merchandising, namely the "Team Edward", "Team Jacob" or "Team Bella" series of bags, shirts, you name it. Personally, it is kinda silly, but I have a collection of WWE shirts, so I shouldn't totally judge.
Outside the movie, the rumored love lifes of Pattinson and Stewart and Lautner and country songbird Taylor Swift have been the talk of the gossip columns for months. Is this really big news, I mean really.
Moving on to New Moon, the anticipated sequel in the series, as the love story of Bella and Edward continues and Jacob Black played by Taylor Lautner gets an expanded role as one of the band of werewolves who hunt Cullen and his fellow vampires.
The movie set domestic box office records as the biggest midnight screening and opening day in history when it grossed an estimated $72.7 million in its first day of release.
I will be viewing this movie and my review will be posted soon on the Reel Revue page.
