Who Went Where? (NFL Free Agent Moves/Trades)
Albert Haynesworth: Who would have thought that on the day free agency begins, the biggest defensive free agent, Titans DT Albert Haynesworth gets taken by the Redskins for seven years and $100 million dollars.
Unfortunately, Redskins won't be able to see how unbelievable their defense could have been with Haynesworth and all-pro Jason Taylor, because Taylor got released after the Redskins and Taylor didn't agree to restructure his contract.
Maybe that is because they spent over $150 million dollars in a 24 hour span for Haynesworth and former Falcons and Raiders safety DeAngelo Hall.
TJ Houshmanzadeh: Finally, TJ left the Bengals, which is becoming a sinking ship, but of all teams the Seahawks. TJ could have ended up with the Vikings and make them the favorite in the NFC, but he goes to a 4-12 team whose loaded with issues, a new coach, a struggling defense and a pourous running game. The five year, $40 million dollar may not have been worth it.
Matt Cassell: In a trade, that may be put under investigation, Matt Cassell and linebacker Mike Vrabel were traded to Kansas City for of all things a second round draft pick.
I feel that the Patriots are banking on the fact that Brady who says he is on schedule to return, but Brady could end up like Daunte Culpepper who after suffering a serious knee injury, his career was never the same.
Cassell, though will bring stability to the quarterback position for Kansas City, and leave the three duds who quarterbacked for KC last year on the bench.
Kellen Winslow: This was a move, even I didn't expect, Winslow although plagued with injuries has played his heart for his former team, the Cleveland Browns, especially last year playing games with numerous injuries.
But the Browns trade him to Tampa Bay, which should help his career putting him with the Bucs who have needed help at the Tight End position for years.
Kurt Warner: I know he's not leaving the Cardinals, he recently asked his agent to send the Cards a proposal of 2 year/$23 million dollar deal. But when I heard word he was talking with the 49ers, I was excited, I mean we have not had a marquis quarterback like that for years, and if the Niners got Warner, the Niners would have been back on the NFC map.
Denver Broncos: Talk about switching things up, Denver has completely began to restock their team, starting with new head coach Josh McDaniels.
Denver has recently added running backs JJ Arrington and Correll Buckhalter, a necessity because Denver went through seven different running backs last year.
On the defensive side of the ball, Denver added Brian Dawkins, who led the Eagles defense for his last 13 seasons in the NFL.
Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys have made waves with two big pickups so far, linebacker Keith Brooking and quarterback Jon Kitna.
New York Jets: Under new coach Rex Ryan, the Jets are currently stocking a strong defense, working with the same philosophy that worked with the Ravens. The Jets in this brief off-season signed former Eagles CB Lito Sheppard and former Ravens LB Bart Scott, would Ray Lewis not be far behind.
Brooking, an all-pro linebacker who played last year for Falcons, will help improve Dallas's d, and for Kitna well he is saved from the disaster that is the Detroit Lions, sure he is a backup to Romo, but in the case riding the pine for a contender, is better than starting for a pretender.
Other Notable Pickups: The Giants have now lost their three headed monster at running back, with Derrick Ward going to Tampa Bay.
Cedric Benson, a player who is now under the "PacMan" files with his current history off the field, was surprisingly signed by the Bengals, although the Bengals is a trainwreck, so maybe it's a perfect fit.
Finally, Dan Orlovsky, one of the unfortunate Detroit Lions last season was signed by the Texans for the three years. So let me get this straight, the Texans trade Sage Rosenfels who put up decent numbers for them in his career (although while he was a 49er, he stunk up the joint) and bring in Orlovsky who became famous for doing this:
