Late Reviews (Quantum of Solace and Soul Men)
QUANTUM OF SOLACE
007 is back in Quantum of Solace, Daniel Craig reprises the role of James Bond, a role that he successfully portrayed in 2006's "Casino Royale."
In Quantum of Solace, the story continues exactly where Casino Royale left off as Bond is on a mission to stop an environmentalist from taking control of a country's valuable resource while also avenging the death of his true love Vesper Lynd played by Eva Green.
I just want to go on record and say Daniel Craig is the best modern day Bond, notice I say modern day Bond, because no actor will ever beat the portrayal of Bond by Sean Connnery.
Quantum of Solace features solid action sequences, but the one thing I could say about Quantum of Solace as opposed to Casino Royale, is that the action sequences in Casino Royale didn't take over the film like in Quantum of Solace, for me at times the story did get a little lost in between the car chases and gunfights, but Craig's dark portrayal of James Bond made up for it.
SOUL MEN
If you were a fan of the late Bernie Mac, Soul Men was the movie for you. A comedic genius, Mac passed away in 2008 due to complications from pneumonia.
But with Soul Men, it was one of the underrated comedies of 2008, oddly this movie marked the first time that Mac and co-star Samuel L. Jackson were in a film together.
In Soul Men, Jackson and Mac play two former backup soul singers who reluctantly agree to travel across the country together for a reunion concert to honor their recently deceased lead singer, played by R&B star John Legend.
This was movie was fun to watch just to see the comedic chemistry between Jackson and Mac, it is a shame they couldn't do any more movies together.
Not only that the performance scenes in the film were great, Jackson and Mac worked well together on stage.
It's a shame that 2008, marked the passing of two my favorite comedians Mac and the legendary George Carlin, they will forever be missed.
Soul Men, is one of two other projects that Mac completed before his passing, he was featured as Ben Stiller's father Zuba in Madagascar 2 and in the upcoming film Old Dogs with Robin Williams and John Travolta.
(Both films earned a four reel score)
