A Crazy Start to the 2008 NFL season
This has clearly been on of the most crazy NFL seasons ever.
Last year, the one undefeated team was the New England Patriots, the Tennessee Titans finished 7-9, now Tom Brady is injured, the Patriots are 3-3 and the Vince Young-less Titans are 5-0, WHAT!
Already this season, there's been a six touchdown passing game from Brett Favre and a 200 yard rushing performance from Atlanta Falcon Michael Turner, who oddly in his first year out of LT's shadow is the league's leading rusher.
But with all the craziness, there's been a slew of games with unbelievable finishes, like this last Sunday, four games come down to the last ten seconds, unlike the 49ers and Eagles, where the 49ers were winning by 9 in the fourth quarter and cough up the game after Philly scores 23 points and the 49ers keep on losing, AAAHHHHHH!
(Anyway, moving on)
Last year, it was clear that the Miami Dolphins was the worst team in the NFL, but now with a new #1 draft choice Jake Long, a new QB Chad Pennington and new GM Bill Parcells, the Dolphins may actually be a contender in the AFC.
As far as the worst team, it's a debate between two former AFC powerhouses, the Bengals and the Chiefs who may soon lose their all pro tight end Tony Gonzalez to of all teams the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
Also, rookie quarterbacks becoming starters, is often a sad tale, take Vince Young (more sophomore than rookie year) or Ryan Leaf. But now two quarterbacks, have stepped up and took the reigns for their new ball clubs and have surprisingly succeeded, Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens and Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons.
Flacco, an unexpected starter due to the season ending injury to Kyle Boller, has performed solidly behind the new offensive system led by first year coach John Harbaugh, not to mention the fact that he's backed by the league's top defense (until last Sunday against Indy).
Ryan, has done what no other quarterback has done in Atlanta, make the people say Michael Who? The black cloud that was left over that team due to the Michael Vick scandal, may now have been lifted.
The Falcons sit at 4-2, Ryan has performed solid, under new coach Mike Smith and aided by the strong running attack of second year man Jerious Norwood and Turner.
For the first time, that I can remember, it's an absolute crapshoot as to who will come out of the season as Super Bowl champions, but it should be a wild finish.
