Come On Down! Barker's legacy ruined.
I used to like Drew Carey, especially the work he did on his sitcom and hosting Whose Is It Line Anyway. But can somebody explain to me why he was chosen to replace a television icon like Bob Barker on The Price Is Right.
The Price is Right, the longest running game show in television history (35 years) and winner of 17 Emmy Awards, is now left with a host who lacks the personality and solid charisma of Barker.
Recently, I watched an episode where Drew was guiding a contestant through the "Hi-Lo" game, (a game where a contestant chooses the three highest priced products out of six). When the contestant was down to his final correct answer, Drew said, "Let's see if your correct, 1-2-3." Not a real big line prepping a contestant if you ask me.
Back in the day, Barker being almost comical would mess with the contestant, when he would reveal the answer, he would come back and say things like, "Are you sure?" or "What are you going to do with the prize if you win?" That made the show worth watching.
I guess in the end, the show is best with Carey, because if Drew never took the job, who would have been next in line, Rosie O'Donnell. Everyone join me in a collective Wheeeeew!
Top 5-Comedians Turned Game Show Hosts
5. Dennis Miller-"Amnesia" Okay I'll admit this is a biast pick, because I am a huge Dennis Miller fan. When mixed with his satirical humor, the show was quite good, better than Identity with that yahoo Penn Jillette from Penn & Teller.
4. Wayne Brady, "Don't Forget The Lyrics" The right show with the right host. Brady, an improvisational genius gained notoriety on Whose Line Is It Anyway, imitating artists like Stevie Wonder or Little Richard and be able to sing in different styles like Rock or Pop.
3. Bob Saget, "1 vs 100" Who would have ever thought Danny Tanner would be a game show host, too bad he can't use his old school stand up material during the show.
2. Jeff Foxworthy, "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?" I was ecstatic when I heard that the Blue Collar legend became a game show host. Mark Burnett, creator of Survivor and many other hit reality shows really struck gold choosing Foxworthy, his rapport with the kids and contestants, proves why the show is one of the highest rated Fox shows.
1. Howie Mandel, "Deal Or No Deal", Many moons ago, Mandel was a popular stand-up and star of "St. Elsewhere", now he his the host of the biggest game show in the world today, and by world I mean the show is aired in 26 different countries.
Mandel recently did a series of episodes where he took American contestants to Estonia, South Africa and the Philippines.
A perk for Mandel, obviously getting to work with not one, not two, but 26 of the most beautiful women in the world.
