The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
Catch Johnny Nunez's commercial during tonight's MLB All-Star game
2003 Mountain Home High School alum Johnny Nunez recently shot a commercial promoting the launch of Fox Sport's new channel, Fox Sports1, on August 17 and the UFC's debut on the network that same night.
The commercial stars Georges St-Pierre, the current UFC Welterweight Champion and one of the sport's top fighters. It will debut during baseball's All-Star Game. The game starts at 6 p.m. tonight on Fox.
Johnny, who won a pair of state wrestling title in high school, is a mixed-martial arts fighter with a 3-0 record. I recently caught up with him for a quick question and answer session regarding tonight's commercial.
1. What was the experience of filming the commercial like?
The experience of filming the commercial was almost like any other one I have shot: long hours of waiting and take after take after take. (Fun fact: Johnny was once on a reality dating show called " The Cougar.")
2. How'd you get this gig?
I got this gig from an agent that I recently did some other commercials with. And because they were looking for pro fighters.
3. How was working with GSP?
Working with GSP was really humbling to myself knowing that I still have a long road to get to where he is.
George has been a fighter I have looked up to since the sport has started. I remember his battles against Matt Hughes and I remember seeing him beat Matt and was appalled by the excitement and joy of accomplishment that George was expressing.
In fact, George was saying after the commercial that this is what the commercial reminds him of, The Hughes v. St.Pierre battle. To be in the same commercial with him made me realize that "I'm almost there" and to not let up.
4. What was the best part or most rememberable part of the experience?
The best part I remember of the shot was me picking him up and slamming him and thinking he is human and so am I.
5.How are you planning on viewing the commercial the first time?
I'll probably just DVR it (the MLB All-Star game) and watch it when I get home.
6. Any additional things you want to say?
Thanks to everyone that are my supporters and fans. And couldn't be where I am now if it were not for the great coaches and mentors that believed in me in Mountain Home. This is still the beginning.
Johnny Nunez's next fight is in August.
