The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
Dunkin' Donuts is the best
Friday was national doughnut day. I love doughnuts. My favorite doughnuts are Dunkin' Donuts, which just announced a plan to move from a morning stop to an all-day hang out place in an effort to keep up with Starbucks and other coffee chains.
I won't get to visit their new layout anytime soon because there isn't a Dunkin' Donuts anywhere near us here in Mountain Home. This is unfortunate. But because of this, whenever I travel and come across a Dunkin' Donut, I always stop and get a Boston Kreme and a chocolate frosted cake donut.
I often come across their stores in airports. More than once I've risked missing my flight to make a quick donut run. My favorite Dunkin' Donuts is the one in CNN's headquarters in Atlanta. I used to want to work there because I love Dunkin' Donuts and could eat as much as I wanted during my shift and my mom could tell people I work at CNN.
When I backpacked the East Coast a few years ago, I got lost trying to find the original Cheers from the replica Cheers and walked past three Dunkin Donuts along the way. I stopped at all three of them.
When I was younger, we lived near a Dunkin' Donuts in Ohio. My mom didn't keep a lot of junk food in the house and we seldom went out to eat. So when my mom would randomly pull into a Dunkin' Donuts parking lot, it was a big deal to my sisters and me. Those happy memories are what I associate Dunkin' Donuts with; it's about more than just donuts.
My sister's husband is from the East Coast and when her in-laws come out to visit, they often bring her a donut or two. Sometimes they've thrown a couple in a box with other things that they express mail.
A few years ago I stayed at my sister's place for about eight months. One day I walked into the kitchen and saw two Boston Kremes wrapped up in a Dunkin' Donut bag. I really wanted to eat one of them, but I knew where they had come. I knew she was saving them for later, not for Robert. I had to decide which I liked more: free rent or free Dunkin' Donuts.
Bonus link: When the city of Boston was shut down to catch the remaining marathon bomber, Dunkin' Donuts stayed open to provide law enforcement officials with coffee and breakfast. America truly runs on Dunkin.
