The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
Coffee shop thoughts
I spent the day studying at Moxie Java/TCBY today. By Moxie Java, I mean Lucky Perk Coffee, the coffee shop's new name under the previous ownership.
Spending some time at a coffee shop brought up the following points or questions:
1. Coffee shops are the worst place to study. I don't know what drinks people were ordering, but some drinks take a lot of noise to make. Every so often there'd be a blender that would drown out any sound in the shop, including the radio. I'd be like, why are they making so much noise!?! BECAUSE THEY ARE TRYING TO RUN A BUSINESS, THAT'S WHY!
2. All the girls who work there are in high school. When I was in high school, all the girls that worked there were in high school. It's like I get older but they stay the same age. Not only does that make me feel old, but now I get Matthew McConaughey's line in "Dazed and Confused." (Bonus link: A different line in that movie inspired this recent Blake Shelton single.)
3. What's the socially acceptable amount of time it's OK to camp out in a coffee shop based off the purchase of a single drink? I understand that if I go into a coffee shop to use it's free wifi I'm obligated to make a purchase, but what I don't know is how long that purchase is good for. Is it the amount of time it takes me to drink my drink? Is it an hour? 90 minutes? Two hours? Like how long can you stay in one spot without having to buy another drink? And when you get there, how long can you work until you have to approach the counter and make a purchase? These are things I don't know. But I don't want to get them wrong either.
