The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
President Obama is the perfect choice to replace Alex Trebek on Jeopardy!
The other day one of my friends was wondering who would or should be selected to replace Alex Trebek on TV's Jeopardy! I thought about it and threw out the name of someone who took over for a legendary game show host in the past, Drew Carey. Then I thought about it some more and suggested an even better candidate to take over the longtime show: President Barack Obama.
I'm being serious, think about it. Trebek's contract expires in 2016. He's planning on retiring then. Obama's term ends in 20 days into 2017. He's going to be one of the youngest former president's in history. He's going to need something to do with the rest of his life.
Hosting Jeopardy! is the perfect gig for him. He's charismatic. He's proven he can pronounce big words and everyone knows he can read from a teleprompter like a pro. He's spent a lot of time in front of the camera and people have spent a lot of time watching him. He's won the country's biggest popularity contest ( including American Idol) twice. People like him.
Jeopardy! producers like him, too. He's been a category before and his wife co-hosted once.
Half the country already thinks he has all the answers. Those people would love to see him actually have all the answers. And for those who think he's clueless, the irony of him knowing every answer on Jeopardy! for the next 20 years would just be too great to pass up.
Seriously, what else is the guy going to do once he leaves office? Once you've been the president of United States, it's pretty hard to top that. He will have pretty much hit his peek in life at 55 (the age he'll be in January 2017). He's going to need something to do. President Client wrote a book after he left office. President Obama's already written a few and won a Grammy for one of them ( so have presidents Clinton and Carter). President Carter won a Nobel Peace Prize after he left office (2002). Yawn. President Obama already has one of those (2009). Though, his might go the way of Reggie Bush's Heisman trophy if these people have their way.
Since President George H.W. Bush left office, he has had a supercarrier named after him and continues to be one half of the longest-married Presidential couple in history. President Obama and Michelle are young enough to have a shot at that record, but he's going to need something to do until then.
No one's really sure what President George W. Bush has done since he left office. But President Obama's spent the past four years largely doing the opposite of GW, why shouldn't he spend his retirement doing the same?
Seriously, President Obama should be the next host of Jeopardy! It makes too much sense not to happen.
