The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
Look for me at the Super Bowl!
OK, so I'm not really going to the Super Bowl - I'm not even going to be near a TV during the game - but a tie I purchased 1/69th of is going to the game and you should be able to see the tie during the pregame show.
A few weeks ago, I completed a course and Mike Ditka was our graduation guest speaker. Yes, this Mike Ditka.
His spoke for a while about leadership, football and life. It was easily one of the best speeches I've ever been forced to sit through.
One of my classmates knows him personally and Ditka was more than happy to take time out of his busy schedule to come talk to us. He even flew down in his own plane and signed autographs before and after his speech.
The only compensation he received for doing this was our class guidon and a tie that was purchased with class funds everyone donated to at the beginning of the class.
He said he was going to wear the tie for the Super Bowl pregame show. The tie we gave him is red with either white or yellow stripes, I couldn't really tell from the back of the room where they made us sit in alphabetical order.
Super prediction: The Saints are a good team, with an even better feel good story, but Payton Manning is going to be hard to stop.
