The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
Best. Gift. Ever.
I went to the post office today and picked up four packages, a book I ordered last week and one from each of my sisters.
After running the rest of my errands, I was finally able to open my sisters' birthday presents.
I started with my twin's gift first, since her box was on top of the stack. She's been telling me all week long I was either going to hate or love it and the moment of truth had arrived.
I opened the box and immediately saw a Nerf gun on top. I used to complain that while gifts trend to get better as I got older, I never got anything I could open and play with right there. So my sister gets me toys from time to time, which pleases the five-year old in me.
Next to the Nerf gun was a brown towel. I picked it up and moved it to the side, wanting to see what was in the rest if the box. I set it to the side and started to wonder why she sent me a brown towel, surely she couldn't think I needed more towels.
I picked it up and shook it around, hoping to see whatever was wrapped up in it, thinking she might have used it as for packaging. When nothing fell out, I set it aside and returned to the box. Still not sure why she would have sent me a towel, I picked it up once more and unfolded it.
I noticed a hoodie on the towel when I was refolding it. At first I thought maybe it wasn't a towel after all, but a brown sweatshirt. Then I realized what it was and broke out my happy dance.
A few months ago our sister posted a picture of our niece, Ryann Leigh, on facebook wrapped up in a green towel with a hood and frog eyes. I asked why they didn't make them for adults and said I wanted one.
I had forgotten about that conversation, until I saw the hood that is. I immediately knew what it was and why I had gotten it. It was pretty much the most exciting moment of my life.
When I called my sister, I found out she had sewn the pieces together to make me a monkey towel, complete with ears. I now have my own animal-hooded towel.
I'm not sure when I'm going to use it, but I totally plan on it. I might even go swimming sometime just to use it.
Getting a one-of-a-kind, handmade gift from my sister as an inside joke that my sister knows I'm a big enough dork to actually use was the best gift ever.
She also threw in an Akey's Army T-shirt, a book I asked for and a bag of gummy bears. If you think she knows me well, it's because we used to be wombmates.
