The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
Ten reasons I should stay at Idaho for law school
I wrote this about a month ago, but I thought I'd post it anyways.
I walked over to the law school today for the first time to meet with a professor. On the way there, I got rained on. When I came out of the building, it was no longer raining. I wonder if that's a sign. I don't have a check list, I don't make decisions using them, I make most major life decisions based off of feelings and what feels right. But if I did, I imagine my checklist would look something like this:
Idaho; School B; School C
Rained on me on my first visit: Yes. No. No.
But as I left the law school to head to the swimming pool to meet with a five-time Olympic champion for a few minutes, I started thinking of what my list of reasons to stay at Idaho for law school might look like. This is what I came up with:
10. My guard unit is in Moscow. While School B has an engineer unit in the same city as the school, I have a chance to get promoted at a fairly good rate here in Moscow. And I'm not sure about School C, I haven't checked their guard units yet. But I do know I really, really, really like living in the same city that I drill in. After three years of living three hundred miles away from where I drilled, I really enjoy walking out of the drill hall and into my front door ten minutes later, which has been the case this semester for the first time since I've been in the guard.
9. The Bagel Shoppe! I love, no wait, make that LOVE, the Bagel Shoppe.
8. I walked into the Kibbie Dome today to check out the set up for graduation and realized I still haven't had sex in the Dome's press box. I could remedy this with three more years here. (To be honest, not really. I can't have sex in public for some reason. I dated a girl that was OK doing it wherever I wanted and I always chickened out.)
7. Everything in Moscow is within walking distance and I like that. This has two purposes. During the day, I would live close enough to campus I wouldn't have to pay for a parking pass or deal with finding a parking spot. During the night, my apartment would be close enough to any bar in Moscow I could easily walk home.
6. I could hit up the Bagel Shoppe on my way home!
5. Blue Monday. The greatest drinking night ever. I'm not going to lie. If I made a list of reasons why I shouldn't stay at Idaho for law school, Blue Monday would top that list. I'm not sure if my body can handle three more years of Blue Monday.
4. Shawn O'Neal lives in Moscow. This might not seem like a good reason, but I can call Shawn and ask him anything almost any time of the day and he'll answer it with no questions asked. Everyone needs someone like this. Previous sample questions include, "How do I find random people?" and "What's the most amount of times I can call someone who doesn't want to talk to me before it's considering stalking?"
3. I already know the campus. I won't have to worry about getting loss at a new school. The same is true for Moscow versus a new college town.
2. I can sit courtside or in the press box for all home Idaho games if I stay in Moscow.
1. Staying here for another three years will give me time to finally figure out the difference between Third and Sixth streets.
