The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
Sugarland's Love on the Inside is love.
Digital media and online steaming might be how most people my age get new music, but as a music fan, there is nothing I like more than to listen to a new CD while holding the jacket cover and checking to see what the name of each song is on the back of the album's case.
Currently, I have the new Sugarland CD in the player, I've already gone though the jacket cover for the first of what will be many times and the back of the case is in plain view.
I can't confirm it, but I'm pretty sure I'm the first in Mountain Home to own the CD. I spent the first twenty minutes of this day waiting for them to dig it out of the back at Wal-Mart.
The name of Sugarland's new CD is "Love on the Inside, deluxe fan edition." And let me tell you, there really is love on the inside.
When you open it up, there are seventeen tracks of Jennifer Nettles' voice on the inside, the very definition of love.
I love that voice. I can listen to it over and over and never get tired of hearing her.
She's so amazing that a few days ago I heard her doing an interview on the radio with band mate Kristian Bush while driving around town and had to make a conscious decision as to weather I was going to listen to the blond in the passenger seat or the blonde on the radio.
Last week, wrote Taylor Swift's fans deserve more from her when it came to a new CD. Sugarland's fans will not have the same complaint with this CD.
This is an album, with a softer sound to it than most country albums, created with the fans in mind.
The duo wrote, or co-wrote, 15 of the 17 tracks and wrote a line or two of their thoughts on nearly every song in the album's sleeve. The deluxe fan edition includes five bonus songs, rewarding fans for buying the album when it was released. The CD gives fans access to Sugarland video downloads.
With CD sales down across the board (but up in country music), no one is working harder to not only sale CDs, but to make them worth the purchase.
The band, or rather their label, carried out an extensive marketing plan for this CD, more so than any other country artist I can remember. They were on more radio shows and gave more radio interviews this past week then most acts do in a year.
Inside five of their deluxe fan edition CDs, there are Willy Wonka-like gold tickets that give fans the chance to attend the CMA Awards, meet the group, attend a private show and a bunch of other cool stuff that became a whole lot less cooler the moment I realized my CD didn't come with one.
I wonder if I can get a refund from Wal-Mart for not being completely satisfied with my purchase. And if so, can I get the same refund about 80 times?
I didn't actually plan on finding a ticket in my CD, so I can't really complain. Experiencing the music the creative force that is Sugarland makes is a prize within its self.
Take that $12 you saved last week from not buying Taylor Swift's "Beautiful Eyes" and use it towards buying Sugarland's "Love on the Inside" CD.
Deluxe fan edition of Robert's Randoms
And because any excuse for searching YouTube for Jennifer Nettles/Sugarland videos is a good one, check out these:
1. The band debuting their fun, flirty, summer lead single "All I wanta do" at the ACM Awards.
2. Jennifer bearing her heart and soul and being brave enough to let her voice alone carry a song on "Stay".
3. Sugarland singing "Irreplaceable" with Beyonce.
4. Who doesn't love an American Girl?
5. Even Elmo digs Sugarland. And Martina McBride, the Backstreet Boys, Nora Jones, the Goo Goo Dolls and Hootie and the Blowfish.
Elmo gets more visitors than Jay Leno.
