The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
The happiest two people Hilary won't be President
When Hilary Clinton finally accepted she wasn't going to be the Democratic president nominee, about 18 million people were disappointed their top choice was no longer in the contest.
She also happened to make a lot of people happy by suspending her campaign. While it should come as no surprise Sen. Barack Obama had to be the most happiest about her defeat, people might be surprised to learn who the second most happiest person was when Hilary gave up her fight for the White House: Chelsea Clinton.
As Hilary gave her final speech as a president candidate, Bill and Chelsea stood to the side of the stage, Chelsea no doubt doing her happy dance, even if it was only in her head.
A lot of people spend a good portion of their adult life trying to get out of the shadows of their parents or other relatives. It's the very reason why nobody knows who Nicholas Coppola is but a lot of people flock to see movies Nicolas Cage star in.
It's not a bad thing to want to succeed or to use what your parents have done as the standard of success you desire to get to and past.
In my house, my mom retired from the Air Force as an E6 after a 20-year career in which she raised the four of us as a single parent.
Each of my sisters and I have followed our mother into the military, Leslie and I are in the Idaho Army National Guard and our two younger sisters are in the active duty Air Force.
With the military, there is a clear goal and rank for each of us to shoot for. Who ever stays in the longest and achieves the highest rank 'wins,' through we all understand we can still succeed in life if we decide not to make the military a career as our mother did.
But if one of your parents is a U.S. President, it can be pretty hard to get out of their shadow and create your own name for yourself. Unless of course, you decide to follow your dad into the White House and remove any doubt you're not as good as your father, not that I'm saying that's happened anytime in recent memory.
Imagine how hard it would be to do so if both your parents were elected president, including if your mom was the first woman to hold the position.
It wouldn't matter what you did the rest of your life, you'd never be able to outdo your parents. No matter what you did, when ever someone asked you, "what are you doing nowadays?' The answer wouldn't matter. People would always be like, 'oh.' And then they'd ask what your parents are up to.
You'd have to find the cure to cancer, be the captain of a space shuttle to Mars, win a Nobel Peace Prize, win an Oscar or a Grammy and make a billion dollars before you were 30 so people wouldn't consider you a disappointment.
Or, change your last name to Bush and nobody would expect anything out of you the rest of your life. Anybody know what the Bush twins are up to nowadays?
