The idea behind Robert's Random is for me to write about whatever I'm thinking about whenever I'm thinking it. I try to write 3-5 times a week, but sometimes real work gets in the way of that. Sometimes I'll share whatever random thought I might have that day but most of the time, I like to write about things going on in the news. I'm a total news junkie, I spend a lot of time online at various news sites. If I find a story where someone does something totally stupid or I wonder "what were they thinking?" I don't mind pointing it out incase others missed it or taking my best guess at what they were thinking. I like to laugh, I like to make others laugh. There's so much serious and wrong stuff going on in the news that when I find an unusual or light story, I like to use it. And while real life news events might be the focus of many of my blogs, I'm just trying to entertain you, make you laugh and maybe even think about something you didn't know before reading. I'm not trying to break any serious news or deliver any hard-hitting coverage. You'll have to read a paper or watch one of the network shows for that.
What's a guy gotta do to get a break?

Joakim Noah was just minding his own business walking down the street in Gainesville drinking a cup of cognac ‑ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognac_(drink)- when he was approached by some cops.
Noah put the cup down and the cops smelled the cup and discovered it to be an alcoholic drink. Just like that, Noah went from strolling down the street, enjoying life and drinking from a keg cup to posing for his mug shot.
Once at the police station, police found marijuana in his pocket and now he faces up to six months in jail and a $500 fine.
Police in Gainesville suck. Noah led the University of Florida to two NCAA basketball championships before getting drafted by the Bulls last year.
You think that might get you a free get out of jail free card in Gainesville or something, but apparently not. Police there are content with treating everyone equally and not giving anyone preferred treatment.
Imagine if Jared Zabransky were walking down the street holding a cup of something in Boise. But before you do that, first imagine Zabransky leading the Bronco's to two national championships, having a pro career - http://www.uiargonaut.com/content/view/4353/46/ - and people seem to actually like him.
Do you think the police would bust him or get an autograph for the kids and use their cell phones to get a picture of them together?
Exactly. That's what the cops should have done in Noah's case.
It's not like he's a member of the Gator football team or something - http://wearesc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23711.
And it's not like he was in Chicago trying to act like he owned the city after a so-so rookie season or anything.
He was in Gainesville, trying to enjoy the three-day weekend acting like every other 23-year old who visits the town they went to college at when the cops decided to put an end to his fun.
